What are Group Programs?
[top]

At MAS, 4 or more people can qualify as a "group" in which special discounts apply.  All groups must designate a single person to coordinate the trip with MAS.  Group coordinators are in charge of distributing and collecting all paperwork among group members including trip logistics.

Once a date and curriculum has been outlined between MAS and the group coordinator a contract will be issued with payment schedules, final details and reservation/cancellation policies. All programs are secured by a signed contract and paid deposit.

Examples of groups include but are not limited to:

  • Boy & Girl Scout Troops
  • Church Communities
  • Athletic Teams
  • Office/Business Staffs
  • Family Reunions
  • Birthday Parties

Group programs can serve several purposes:

  • simply getting a group of people recreating safely in the outdoors
  • provide a discount on the exciting programs that MAS offers
  • establish a group bonding experience (aka - "team building")

Team Building through Rock Climbing
[top]

Rock climbing is inherently a team-building sport.....

Picture this......a team composed of three individuals.....a climber, a belayer and a back-up belayer.  The goal is to get the climber safely up and down the specified route.  The person tied into the rope is the climber; the person managing the rope to catch the climber, should he or she fall, is the belayer; and the back-up belayer is there to respond, should the belayer loose control.  All bases are covered.

The team first needs to learn the safety checks belay methods before climbing. Checks and signals are done...the climber begins. Climbing up, nervously, cautiously.....the belayer says, “I've got you...don't worry”....the back-up belayer encourages the climber. Together, as a team, they get the climber to the top. An amazing adrenaline rush...but now, they have to lower him or her. Sometimes this is scarier than climbing up! The climber is successfully lowered, and the team has accomplished it's goal. Now it's time to switch roles.

The rewards? Empowerment, self-esteem, accomplishment. Best of all, this experience takes you to a level deep within you that you may never have touched before. It is very primal......the survival instinct.

It doesn't matter what position you hold in the company. Rock climbing transcends the boundaries of status and hierarchy. The receptionist can belay the CEO and it doesn't matter who outranks whom. At this level, the CEO is a human being whose life is in the hands of another human being. This teaches us a basic respect for each other. It creates a bond unlike any other.

What better way to practice skills needed to build a successful team for your company than outside in the sunshine surrounded by the beautiful outdoors and healthy, active, enthusiastic people. MAS can take you here.
