The MAS Outdoor Rock Climbing School is one of California’s most comprehensive rock climbing programs.  MAS experienced and professional guides blend education and adventure to maximize your rock climbing experience.  MAS can help you reach the top.

MAS rock climbing programs are divided into 3 categories:

  1. Workshops: 1 day educational classes often scheduled in blocks for progressive multi-day learning experiences.  For your convenience all Workshops are available as Privates.
  2. Adventures: 1-3 day programs to get you out on some of the best multi-pitch climbs in California.  Many “Adventures” a sparsely scheduled to accommodate Private bookings.
  3. Privates & Groups: Custom courses for groups and individuals.

Rock Climbing Courses

Intro. to Outdoor Climbing Workshop

This thorough introduction to outdoor rock climbing will get you moving comfortably and confidently on the rock.  All climbing gear included.  (photos)

Family Rock Climbing

Treat your family to a day of outdoor rock climbing in Bear Valley. This program is a great way to have a healthy and exciting day with the entire family. MAS instructors will supervise, coach and encourage throughout the day. No experience required and all equipment provided.

Boy Scout Climbing Merit Badge

MAS can lead you and your scout through the BSA Rock Climbing Merit Badge requirements in a safe and supportive outdoor environment.  It’s a lot of fun, no experience is required, and all equipment is provided.  Parents are encouraged to participate too.  Also available for private “troop” bookings.

Gym to Crag Workshop

This class is designed for indoor gym climbers and “Intro. to Outdoor Climbing” graduates looking to further their outdoor climbing skills.

Anchor Workshop

Learn how to place and set top-rope anchor systems using a variety of outdoor anchors such cams and nuts. “Bomb-proof” anchors are a necessity for successful outdoor climbing.

Rock Rescue Workshop

Lead Workshop

This low student to instructor class (2 to 1) is taught in a “hands-on” environment and designed to get you leading confidently on both sport and traditional climbs.

Multi-Pitch Workshop

Interested in leading longer routes?  If so, it is a wise idea to get training before heading up. This “hands-on” course teaches you multi-pitch techniques and “tricks of the trade” to increase your efficiency, safety and enjoyment of multi-pitch climbing.

Aid Climbing Workshop

Learn and practice skills required to scale the big walls of Yosemite and beyond. This program provides hands-on practice of jumaring (aka- jugging), aid climbing and hauling. Then put your skills into action during the MAS Big Wall Camp.

Lovers Leap Adventure

Lovers Leap is one of the best multi-pitch rock climbing sites in California.  Most of the “classic” routes are 5.7 – 5.10 and are characterized by steep crack and face climbs with horizontal dikes. This unique blend of features allows for steep, wild and memorable climbing. Coupled with easy access, walk-off descents and good camping & lodging nearby, its no wonder Lovers Leap is on every climber’s wish list.

Calaveras Dome Adventure

Spectacular granite multi-pitch climbing and riverside camping define this wild and remote adventure only 2 hours from Sacramento. Both crack and face multi-pitch climbs from 5.7 – 5.10 abound and range from 3-11 pitches in length. (photos)

Matterhorn Peak Adventure

This adventure is for aspiring alpine rock climbers wishing to gain experience in the High Sierra.  This trip targets the North Arete (5.7 III) of Matterhorn Peak and the NW Face of Horse Creek Tower (5.6 II) over three days.

Incredible Hulk Adventure

The Incredible Hulk in the Sawtooth Range west of Bridgeport on Highway 395 is regularly credited with offering the best alpine rock climbing experiences in the High Sierra. This program aims for the famous “Red Dihedral” (5.10b IV) route which is know for perfect, clean and physical climbing in a dramatic and exposed location.  Most of the route follows 5.8/5.9 crack systems so it is important that all participants have good crack climbing skills.

This trip can be taken as either a 2 or 3 day adventure depending physical fitness and preference. Contact the MAS office to discuss details.
