Our one-day Ice Axe clinic is for anyone wants to ascend Mt. Shasta via Avalanche Gulch but lacks the necessary technical skills. Or for climbers or hikers who want to learn about the basic tools and techniques of snow climbing. Designed to give you the necessary information you need to hike or climb over snow-covered terrain which encountered while climbing the Avalanche Gulch route on Mt. Shasta. Topics include: Walking with the Ice axe, ice axe self-belay, ice axe self-arrest (from all positions), crampons boot fit and adjustment, walking in crampons, flat-footing, French technique, German technique, using the front points, and glissading.
